WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY WINNER OF 25K IN SOFTWARE FROM LUNA IMAGING
Drawing Held at America Libraries Association Conference in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA - January 27, 2003
Paul Howell from Western Michigan University was the winner of a random drawing for a full-featured copy of Luna Imaging's new Insight Standard software valued at $25,000.

The drawing, which took place during the American Library Association's mid-winter meeting on Sunday, January 27, helped celebrate the launch of Luna Imaging's newest software solution that makes building visual collections online quick, easy and economical. Luna's Insight software has been used for nearly a decade by some of the most prominent universities and museums in the country to dynamically view and work with high-resolution images, data, video and audio materials online.

The crowd gathered around Luna Imaging's booth at the ALA mid-winter meeting cheered as Paul Howell's name was pulled from among the 500+ entries for the drawing.

Paul Howell was not at the conference and informed by telephone of his winning entry.

Visual collections within Insight are being used in a variety of ways. Several leading U.S. institutions are using Insight® to draw upon their digital resources for teaching in the classroom, displaying presentations with digital projectors or monitors.

"We are pleased to welcome Western Michigan University to the Insight community as we celebrate the launch of Insight Standard, our newest software solution in response to the needs of those who work with visual collections," says Megan Marler, Luna Imaging Director of Sales and Marketing.

Insight® Standard includes all the power of Insight and comes pre-configured with the Visual Resources Association (VRA) Core 3.0 metadata standard. VRA provides guidelines for cataloguing visual resources, but a relational implementation of the standard within a database structure is left up to the individual. This can be a very complicated task that has a direct bearing on the ability of end users to search and retrieve images, Marler says.

The new software is also easy to use. Simply install Insight Standard and begin adding content to a new Insight collection. As new records are created, Insight Standard provides the fields to be completed, ensuring that the visual resources are catalogued in accordance with the VRA guidelines.

Insight Standard also comes with Luna's data editing tool called Inscribe,™ which enables users to create, edit, and delete catalog information over the Internet. Inscribe comes complete with the Getty's Art & Architecture Thesaurus with additional support for ULAN and TGN. Among the other features of Insight Standard are workflow tracking, local vocabulary support, online training, and software productivity tools for adding and cataloging unlimited numbers of additional images to your visual resource collection with local management of user accounts and privileges through Insight® Administrator Tools.

Luna Imaging, Inc., (www.lunaimaging.com) is based in Culver City, CA. Luna Imaging enables museums, libraries and archives to build and distribute high-quality visual collections in digital form and provides sophisticated software to access and use image collections over the Internet.
