INSIGHT® PROVIDES ACCESS TO STANFORD UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

download a pdf of this document

Venice, CA - January 21, 2001
Luna Imaging is pleased to announce it is playing a role in helping Stanford University provide greater access to two unique collections.

Our Insight® software was selected to provide online access to a collection of more than 1,300 works of leading Chicana artists, whose artwork is largely underrepresented in the art world. The collection is representative of a variety of media from photographs to murals and paintings to sculpture. As part of a prior initiative, the university's Spanish and Portuguese Department digitized the collection.

Insight® is also being used to provide the visual environment for displaying and working with images and data in the Athanasius Kircher Collection, held in the archives of the Pontifical Gregorian University and digitally hosted by Stanford University Library. The collection contains more than 7,000 manuscripts, drawings and hand scripted letters. Kircher, a seventeenth-century Jesuit polymath, created a museum of curiosities, antiquities and inventions in the Collegio Romano and published more than thirty books on virtually every imaginable domain of knowledge. More information about Kircher and the collection is accessible via the collection's web site at http://150.217.52.68/kircher.

Both the Chicana and Kircher collections will be accessible using Insight® in March via Stanford's Humanities Digital Information Service website at http://www-sul.stanford.edu/depts/hasrg/hdis. To find out more about how the collections can be accessed, contact Glen Worthey at glenw@sulmail.stanford.edu.
