LUNA IMAGING, INC. AND SASKIA LTD. INTRODUCE POWERFUL TEACHING TOOL
Insight® Software Allows Unprecedented Online access to Visual Collections
NEW YORK CITY - February 24, 2000
Traditional slide lectures are moving into the future with the release
today of a powerful new art history teaching tool that provides access
to important visual collections over the Internet.
Saskia Online uses Luna Imaging, Inc.'s Insight® software to offer
unprecedented online access to high-resolution digital images from Saskia
Ltd.'s premier survey collections, which have been the standard for
art history educators for decades. Using the insight interface, subscribers
can draw on more than 2,000 Saskia images, including works represented
in several major textbooks such as the Expanded Gardner Set, the Expanded
Stokstad Set and images from Saskia's Italian Renaissance Set.
"Together, Saskia images and Insight software give instructors the quality,
selection and instructional versatility they want for teaching," said
Michael Ester, president and founder of Luna Imaging. "Insight also
provides the opportunity for students to work with these same resources
using a rich set of tools for comparing and viewing images."
Recognizing that more and more visual collections are becoming available
in digital form, Luna and Saskia collaborated to develop tools that
empower professors and students to view and work with images dynamically.
Instructors can prepare image lectures in the office and display insight
presentations in the classroom with digital projectors or monitors.
Presentations can be as simple as choosing and ordering full screen
images, or they can incorporate several images shown at once to show
details and side-by-side comparisons. insight offers searching and display
of text information with an equally rich set of tools for viewing, comparing,
and organizing images.
"Our traditional slide users group has been asking for just this type
of tool for teaching," said Carmen Garcia Wiedenhoeft, (title) Saskia
Ltd. "Online access in insight® allows us to retain the same high
image standards institutions have come to expect from us. At the new
subscription pricing that would have been impossible with slides, our
images are within reach of any university or college where art history
is taught."
The new teaching tool was released today at the College Art Association
conference in New York City. In addition to Saskia, other prominent
resource providers will soon be releasing their collections in insight.
