LUNA IMAGING REDUCES COST OF SOFTWARE OWNERSHIP BY ADDING SUPPORT FOR MYSQL
CULVER CITY, CA - December 23, 2004
Luna Imaging, Inc., is reducing the cost of ownership of its software
with the release of Insight 5.1. The new version of the software used
by museums, libraries and universities worldwide for managing and working
with visual resources now supports MySQL, the world¹s most popular
open source database. MySQL is an attractive alternative to higher-cost,
commercial database offerings.
Leading institutions from Stanford University to the Cleveland Museum
of Art use Insight to support their digital initiatives because the
software makes building and working with high-resolution images and
multi-media easy, whether on your local network or half a world away.
Insight
(www.lunaimaging.com) comes with a complete set of simple yet powerful
tools for adding media and custom or standard descriptive data to collections.
Unique to Insight is a rich toolset for working with images and multimedia,
including zooming on image details, conducting side-by-side comparisons,
annotating images and more.
³This upgrade reflects Luna¹s tradition of continually improving
its software to add more value for our customers,² says Luna Chief
Operating Officer Alton Hoover. ³Typically, Luna provides two software
updates a year and many of the new features included are a direct response
to customer requests.²
Among the other key features of Insight 5.1 is support for Safari, the
default web browser for Mac OS X. Many other features will make managing
and working with visual collections even easier. A complete list of
Insight 5.1 features is available via Luna¹s web site at www.lunaimaging.com.
Replacing the traditional slide carousel, Insight is revolutionizing
the way teaching and research are conducted at many leading institutions.
Using Insight, instructors can build visual presentations for classroom
use that can be as simple as a slideshow rotating through each image,
or more complex comparing multiple images side-by-side. Once a presentation
is saved it can be published online for further student study.
Now, with one of the new features of Insight 5.1, those groups of images
saved for presentations and student study can be better because Insight
users can now create subfolders within Insight shares. End users can
use and create folders within a share to store image groups and presentations.
Administrators can specify which users have the rights to add, delete,
and/or use top-level folders within Insight shares.
Based in Culver City, CA, Luna Imaging, Inc. www.lunaimaging.com
provides Insight software and professional digital imaging services
for visual collections.
