LUNA LAUNCHES NEW INSIGHT HOSTED PRODUCT

Luna Imaging today launched a new Insight Hosted product that incorporates IT support and systems hardware so building and maintaining digital image collections online is even easier.

Insight Hosted customers need not concern themselves with the installation of the Insight software, a relational database or the set up and reliable back-up of a media server because these are just some of the key technical support functions Luna performs for Insight Hosted customers.

"We are breaking down all the barriers that stand in the way of collection owners using our software," says Luna Imaging CEO Harvey Goldstein. "We began more than a year ago by making Insight easier to use, we recently tackled the price issue, and now we're prepared to provide our customers the technical support they need."

With Insight Hosted, collection administrators receive all the tools needed to remotely build, maintain and access their collections. They can simply log in and use wizard-based technology to drag and drop media and load associated text into standard or custom data templates. They also have the ability to remotely manage who can use the collection and their level of access.

The development of the Insight Hosted product further demonstrates Luna's commitment to make building and sharing visual collections more affordable for libraries, museums and universities that use the software for research and teaching. Insight has replaced the traditional slide carousel and allows instructors to build visual presentations for classroom use that can be as simple as a slideshow rotating through each image, or more complex comparing multiple images side-by-side. Once a presentation is saved it can be reused and published online for further student study.

In January, Luna announced a dramatic price reduction through March 31 for Insight that allowed institutions to obtain the software for a fraction of past pricing. Luna has now set a new academic fee structure, which remains significantly lower than past pricing. Insight is available for $3,700 a year, along with a one-time fee of $1,000, for subscriptions supporting collections of up to 8,000 images. The software can also be purchased with no image limits for a one-time price of $7,000, along with annual maintenance of $3,700. Premium support is available for an additional $2,000 a year.

Insight customers can now opt for the Insight Hosted product, which includes Luna's guaranteed 24/7 online collection access, secure back ups and routine software upgrades. Luna installs Insight and a database on its internal servers for a small initial fee of $750. Luna's annual hosting fee begins at $2,400 for 8.5 gigabytes of storage space, which will support approximately 3,000 slides.
