Insight v.5.6 Released November 30, 2006
Insight isn't just about efficient image delivery or comprehensive end-use tools. Beginning with v5.6, Insight's Media Manager
now supports both storage and retrieval of source images, allowing you to archive your master images to the Insight Media Server. Also new in Insight
v5.6 is browser based support for an expanded list of media formats (including .pdf and .doc). Additionally, Insight v5.6 supports Power Point for
Mac export, while the Magnifying tool has been added to the Image Workspace.
Growing Community
The Insight Community continues to grow as we welcome these new clients:
Tulane University; Photographic Preservation Society; University of Chicago; McWane Science Center. Pomona College, an existing client, is now a consortial host
for Pitzer College, our newest Consortial client.
Dynamic Content
Rumsey Historical Maps are now in Google Earth. See 16 historical maps in the Featured Content layer of
the Google Earth 3D Globe. The georeferenced maps wrap the virtual globe in their
modern spaces, allowing explorations of both time and space.
A stunning addition to the David Rumsey Historical Map Collection is a composite of 182 engraved maps from
Cassini’s 1750 map of France.
Available in Insight the image is 24 GB and illustrates the awesome power of Insight’s viewing capabilities.
Initiatives and Partnerships
With support from the Insight Community, a VRA Core 4.0 template is now available for building collections with
Insight Studio. Studio allows organizations to build
templates from scratch, use preexisting templates, or import templates from other organizations. Special thanks to Jennifer Faist of the Art Center
College of Design. Contact us for more information on the VRA Core 4.0 template.
Together, Luna Imaging and Saskia Ltd. are now able to provide you with Scholars Resource Insight ready collections. These Insight-ready images
from more than one hundred museums around the world, including the Louvre and the Prado, represent one of the largest and most important image
archives for the teaching of art history at both the basic core content level and in depth analysis for advanced study. For more information on
this service please contact Scholars Resource.
