Dear Insight Community,

With our new accelerated development schedule, we’re now only a couple of weeks away from moving our next release, v6.2, into testing. We’re still on target for a May release, so start planning your update schedule!

As clients, you are our development partners: our goal is to make sure Insight continues to meet your evolving needs. Your feedback is crucial, so we’ve set up some new ways for you to get us the information we need. We have implemented a new system that enables you to report problems via email, assigns you a case number, and keeps you in the loop during resolution of the issue. The system helps us track error reports and manage the process of solving problems. We’ve also set up a wiki so the solutions to common support issues can be shared with other Insight users. In addition, you can always call and talk to a support tech or to your account manager.

The May release is primarily focused on the completion of the LUNA Commons. Updates to the LUNA Publisher (which launches through Studio) will enable institutions to send public collections to the LUNA Commons. Even if you don’t have public collections to send to the Commons, you will still be able to receive collections from the Commons so they can be represented on your local LUNA Collections page. Send + Receive. Version 6.2 also includes a long list of functionality and usability improvements that will delight your end users and administrators alike.

The primary reason to upgrade is to see your Insight collections published to the new browser, LUNA. If schedule and internal resource limitations are getting in the way, let us know if you’d like some help. We’ll be happy to offer our support resources to help get you through the upgrade process. Because many institutions are experiencing shifts in IT staff and hardware budgets, we’ve seen increased interest in our Hosting Services. Let us know if you, too, would like to explore this alternative in more detail. With our Hosting Services you have all of the tools to build and manage your own collections, but don’t have to worry about the technical infrastructure. In addition, if you would prefer to have us build your collections, give us a call and let’s discuss the best solution for helping you move forward.

Speaking of moving forward, looking out beyond our v6.2 development schedule, our plans include a list of improvements to make the product more useful and intuitive for a wide array of end-users including the introduction of a book viewer and implementing the feature-rich LUNA interface and index with non-Insight repositories such as Fedora.
