- FUTURE RELEASE
- COMMITTED TO FLEXIBILITY
- LUNA USERS FORUM
- VRA/ARLIS & ACRL

Our development cycle is underway for a stellar 2011 Insight + LUNA 7.0 release. Along with major updates and enhancements to the Insight + LUNA collection building and administrative tools, we're giving you more flexibility in how you manage your content. You'll be able to centrally aggregate content that doesn't belong to a structured collection. This represents a big change to how our software functions.

Simply put, this will allow you to add content to a repository-like container without the need to define a collection first. This improvement doesn't only make your task of managing content easier, it also opens up new opportunities for using Insight + LUNA at your institution.

We’re not eliminating the option of building structured collections, you’ll still be able to build catalog templates, and create structured collections- we’re just making that whole process better.

In the coming months we’ll describe in more detail select features of upcoming releases:

  • New media management features – centrally manage media outside a collection structure
  • Web-based toolset – no more client software downloads
  • Cataloging improvements – support for complex relational and hierarchical data, auto-complete, global search and replace, record merging, web-based authorities, XML import/export, bulk record edit
  • DAM features – watched folders, automatic metadata extraction, image rotation, workflow
  • Support for Apache Shiro – a powerful Java security framework with an easy to use API
  • And much, much, more...

As you can tell from the above list, 7.0 will be a major release for the Insight + LUNA community. While we take great pride in the performance of our software, we are also committed to interoperability with other solutions so that your hard work to catalog and create media can be leveraged across multiple platforms, today and tomorrow.

Whether the descriptive data comes from another system that can sync with Insight, or you chose to expose LUNA collections to a discovery solution such as Primo® or Summon™, we are committed to providing a flexible solution that allows you to adopt new technologies and meet the changing expectations of our user community.

Several months ago we launched the new LUNA Users Forum to facilitate dialogue amongst our vibrant community. More than just a simple forum, it also contains technical articles on a variety of digitization and software topics. Please join in the discussion by taking a moment to register, and start your posting: http://forum.lunaimaging.com/

We’ll be hosting a User Group session at the joint VRA/ARLIS conference in Minneapolis in March and then exhibiting at ACRL in Philadelphia. If you’ll be in attendance and would like to schedule a one-on-one meeting please contact us.
