In these final weeks of 2008, we want to take one more opportunity to make sure you are aware of the recent v6.0.1 release and highlight some specific advantages to upgrading Insight in order to publish collections to the dynamic new LUNA interface.

LUNA 6.0.1 Released
LUNA version 6.0.1, released on November 5, includes several new features and enhancements, as well as the usual bug fixes.

Enhancements in LUNA:

• Video playback of .flv (Flash Video) files in both the Workspace and the Detail View
• Next and Previous image preview in the Detail View
• URL linking in the header graphic
• Support for Virtual Collections

Administrative Features in LUNA and Insight:

• Enhanced LDAP authentication
• Support for LDAPS
• Support for Open LDAP and Active Directory LDAP

Preview of LUNA Commons
Visit www.lunacommons.org to preview the new public destination for discovering Insight Community Collections. The site was launched for Educause on October 27 with a handful of representative LUNA collections. Discover amazing resources in each individual collection or browse and search all of the LUNA Commons collections as one. This resource will grow quickly, so please check back frequently.

Using LUNA
To help you introduce LUNA features and functionality to end-users we have created a PDF titled LUNA in 10 Steps. This piece is also available on our website on the What is LUNA page. We’ll use the ten steps in this document as the foundation for a new Flash tour that will be ready later this month.

Have you explored the LUNA online Help? You’ll find a link on the Documentation page in the Support section of our website and context-specific links from within the LUNA app itself. Included in the online Help are many of the Flash tutorials that are listed independently on the LUNA Tutorials page.

Search Engine Optimization in LUNA
Collections published to LUNA are fully optimized for the Web and we’ve been very impressed with the index results we’ve seen with the sample public collections we are tracking. The more a LUNA collection is indexed, the more likely end-users are to find your quality content.

For example, a LUNA collection with almost 18,500 objects has been indexed by Google over 250,000 times. Not only do the search engines index each object in a LUNA collection, they will also look for each reference to that object. That means that each mapped category, search result, Media Group, Slide Show, and presentation made in LUNA will subsequently get indexed. For example, when you perform a search for ‘celestial atlas’ in Google, the very first page of results includes a link to a LUNA collection, pointing to 83 images from a Celestial Atlas category.
